Paper & Pulp

Fluid Process Equipment's first customers were pulp and paper accounts in Michigan. FPE company founder and President Glyn Lake worked for Warren and Ahlstrom pumps in eastern Canada and eventually eastern USA and built an extensive knowledge in pulp and paper. Many of Fluid Process' personnel come from pulp and paper backgrounds. FPE has a significant presence with pumps operating in almost every Michigan paper mill. Our success was recognized when Sulzer Pumps (formerly Ahlstrom) awarded FPE in 1998 with the pulp and paper territory of Wisconsin. Since then, we have acquired northern Indiana and western Ohio

In 2007, Fluid Process Equipment was awarded the contract to supply US Gypsum's Otsego MI paper mill with 90% of their pump requirements. 40% percent of those services were used pumps that FPE rebuilt saving our customer thousands over buying new.

Sulzer Process Pumps are proven performers in pulp and paper mills across the USA and Canada. Sulzer's APT stock pump is unique with its patented dynamic seal that requires no seal water saving customers thousands in water costs. Sulzer's duplex stainless steel is far superior to 316SS both mechanically and in corrosion resistance. Sulzer's duplex back-to-back bearing arrangement provides bearing units that last five to eight years in 24/7 continuous service. Sulzer incorporates these features in their ANSI pump model CPT.

Sulzer's ZPP and Z double suction, split case fan pumps are industry recognized as the best within paper mill circles. The split, staggered and skewed impeller vane pattern designed by Sulzer results in the lowest pulsation and smoothest flow of any split case pump. In fact, Sulzer has double suction Z pumps operating today in Finland that were installed in 1890!

Sulzer's non-clog NPT pump with a recessed impeller is superior in solids and sludge services. From the high pressure HPT pump for shower water to Sulzer's medium consistency MC stock pump, Sulzer pumps are true performers in pulp and paper.

We also provide; positive displacement pumps like Yamada air operated diaphragm pumps in waste water treatment; Roper Gear Pumps for oil lubrication systems; Wemco self primers for the paper mill floor sumps; Prominent chemical metering pumps for caustic soda and sulfuric acid; Sealless magnetic drive pumps by Iwaki America- suited for chemical fluids and no pump leakage; Moyno progressive cavity pumps for starch and coating services.

We are also the authorized John Crane mechanical seal distributor for Michigan and Indiana. All pulp and paper plants we support use John Crane seals.

Oil & Gas

Colfax is recognized as a Global supplier of pumps and pumping equipment to the Oil & Gas market under the brand names Imo, Warren, Houttuin, Imo AB and Allweiler. Our history in this market dates back more than 50 years to the oil fields of Texas and Oklahoma . Today, our customer base includes global operating companies such as ConocoPhillips, Exxon Mobil, and Chevron Texaco to name a few. There are also regional operators such as PDVSA (Venezuela), Husky Energy (Canada), Saudi Aramco (Saudi Arabia) and Caltex (Indonesia) who depend on Colfax products. With such a broad customer base, our pumping products can be found in upstream processing, on pipeline services, in refineries, at transfer terminals, onboard ships and barges throughout the world.

Within the Oil & Gas market, reliability and dependability are of primary concern. Many pipeline applications require that our pumps perform in remote locations 24/7, 365 days per year. Our operating experience and manufacturing technology allow us to meet these requirements with a screw pump product family based on robust designs and special internal metallurgy. Unlike reciprocating pumps, our screw pumps do not require a regimented maintenance and overhaul program. To our customers, the result is tens of thousands of dollars saved throughout the lifecycle of the pump.

Fluids that are pumped include light & heavy crude, bunker, bitumen, slop oil, distillate, lubricating oil and oily water.

Upstream applications include:

Municipal Water & Wastewater

Fluid Process Equipment's Michigan Wastewater Division was formally established in 1999. FPE has been servicing the Municipal market for over 20 years. Our product mix has expanded as the needs of the market have change and we were required to expand our product mix to fulfill the needs of engineering consultants and our end used clients.

In the beginning we focused on the sludge, scum and filter cake market with Moyno pumps. Moyno was the catalyst for the creation of the Michigan Wastewater Division. Since our formal beginning in 1999 we have established a concept that allows us to take a look at the complete wastewater stream from the collection system to final effluent. We represent Yeomans and Tsurumi submersible pumps, Enviro-Care Headworks screens and classification equipment, Cerlic Instrumentation, to monitor TSS and dissolved oxygen and Kaeser Positive Displacement Blowers for aeration applications. Sulzer Pumps for RAS and WAS applications.

Fluid Process Equipment in the last few years has worked in other municipal applications not related to wastewater. We are currently sole source on one of the largest CSO projects in Michigan. We are providing Process Water Technologies COPA horizontal raked bar screen. We are developing markets for smaller water and wastewater applications with PWT as well. Additionally the PWT Volute Dewatering Press is one of the most innovative low cost low energy consumption cake presses in the world. Our product mix now includes Corix Water Systems for fresh water application too.

Septage processing is becoming a larger part of market as the MDEQ restricts the land application of septage. We have developed a system that can be added on to almost any existing wastewater plant as a very reasonable cost with out any major modification to the existing facility.

Our current product listing for the municipal market is impressive and unique

  • Moyno for sludge, scum and filter cake
  • Kaeser blowers for aeration
  • Cerlic Instrumentation for real time solids and oxygen monitoring
  • KSB, Tsurumi, and Yeomans for submersible pumps
  • Envirocare for Headwords, grinding, and septage receiving applications
  • Process Water Technologies for CSO, Storm water, Package wastewater plants and sludge and septage dewatering.
  • Corix for freshwater and wastewater application
  • Sulzer Pumps for WAS and RAS application.

Food/Personal Care

Personal care products are an integral part of everyone’s life. Toothpaste, shampoo, facial tissue, laundry detergent, toilet paper, soap, deodorant, diapers, and cotton swabs are just a few of the products which we use every day. The common element among all of these items is the emphasis that is placed on superior product quality. The manufacturer’s top priorities are exceptional product performance and premier customer satisfaction.

Industry Challenge

In the personal care industry, the goal of manufacturers is to make the best possible product at the lowest possible cost. This means accurately controlling expensive ingredients being metered into products. Is the correct amount of additive being delivered to the process with absolute certainty? Is over-dosing resulting in extra costs, or is under-dosing resulting in a poor quality product? Are the pumps currently in use delivering additives to the process in an irregular, pulsating manner? Has it become necessary to place an expensive flow meter after the pump to confirm exact fluid delivery?

The Zenith Solution (Zenith is not a major player in the food/personal care market)

Zenith pumps deliver precise, repeatable, and virtually pulse-less flow. Internal design features produce a flow that is smooth and consistent. Precision ground and lapped components produce high efficiency and metering accuracy. The pumps are constructed of stainless steel for excellent corrosion resistance, and deliver an exact amount of fluid flow, eliminating the need for expensive flow meters or other flow control devices.

How You Benefit

Manufacturers of personal care products can vastly improve product quality and reduce waste with the use of Zenith precision metering pumps. By using a Zenith pump, product quality is improved, while plant throughput is maximized.

The Zenith Advantage

Performance - Zenith pumps produce precise, repeatable, and pulse-free flow. If you are looking to reduce cost and improve product quality, Zenith pumps can help. When used with a Zenith ZeDrive 2000 speed control package, set point speeds of ±.01% can be achieved.
