Magnetic Drive Pumps

Magnetic drive pumps are sealless pumps that can offer reliable, safe, zero leakage operation. These pumps use a magnetic field that is transmitted through a primary containment field to transfer torque to an impeller, gears, etc. Most magnetic drive pumps are classified as centrifugal process pumps. The main advantage to these types is that the magnetic coupling eliminates the sealing requirements associated with a rotating drive shaft. For mag-drive pumps to be successful the fluid must be clean since the fluid through the drive section and bearings for lubrication and cooling. Also if the fluid is too hot to provided adequate cooling, other cooling means must be provided.

Features:

  • Used when pumping products where any type of leakage will be an issue ex: hazardous/lethal fluids, expensive fluids, fluids with foul odors, etc.
  • Since these types of pumps rely on the fluid for cooling, dry-running mag-drive pumps can lead to catastrophic failure. It is recommended that some sort of dry-run protection be used such as an Emotron power monitor to protect the pump from serious breakdowns.
