Gear Pump Types

A rotary gear pump is a positive displacement pump made up of two rotating gears, one driven gear and one idler gear. As the gears unmesh on the inlet side of the pump, cavities are created between the gear teeth. This creates a partial vacuum that draws in the liquid. The liquid is carried between the gear teeth and the case to the opposite side of the pump. Here the meshing of the gears forces the liquid out the discharge port. Generally gear pumps depend on the liquid pumped to provide lubrication to the internal working parts.  Consequently, liquids lacking in lubricating properties or extremely thin liquids should be handled with caution.

Features:

  • A rotary gear pump is self-priming.
  • These pumps are usually an inexpensive solution to your pumping needs.
  • Can be truck mounted.
  • Pumping of hard solids should be avoided.
